The Leadership Deficit
The health care debate is a prime example of that lack of leadership.
The lack of preparation for this debate is inexcusable.
We had months to prepare a strategy to defeat this bill
and instead we had a disorganized display of groveling
with Vern Buchanan having Cathy Castor literally
“giggling” at Vern’s presentation.

Had I been in Congress at this time I would have had this strategy:
• Write a complete, concise and direct presentation
with each member delivering their portion in order. Note:
House Members are restricted to how much time they have
to present their arguments on the floor. By having each
member deliver a portion we could have had a consistent
and deliberate argument presented.

• Start with reminding each member of the “Oath of
Office” emphasizing on the Constitution.

• List each and every specific point in the bill that was
“unconstitutional”

convene a Grand Jury, as allowed by law, and prosecute

All we had to do was convince a couple of members that
the risk of voting for this bill was too high and the chances
of being indicted were very good. I believe this strategy
would have given us a different outcome.

For Vern’s part, his argument was that he had been in
business for 30 years and this bill was a job killer and that
it was going to cost seniors a lot of money. My high school
debate teacher would have said “Gee, ya think?” and then
given him a failing grade pointing out that, although those
were true facts, you have to tell the opponent information
they did not consider if you are going to win the debate.
